My Story
Betty is a Shreveport native, growing up in Andrews Grocery, the family store where
everyone in the family worked and served the Caddo Heights community for 50 years.
She graduated from Fair Park High School in 1959, and is a proud graduate of
Louisiana Tech, where she also received her Masters in Education Supervision and
Administration and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. After a ten-year
career in education, Betty began her real estate career, obtaining her Realtor Associate
license in 1974 and broker’s license in 1976, and her Notary for the State of Louisiana
in 1976.
Her almost 50-year real estate career began under broker Phil King for fourteen years,
followed by a season with Simon Building and Development. She took her experience of
building and development to Coldwell Banker J. Wesley Dowling/Coldwell Banker
Gosslee, where during her 35 years, she managed both the Shreveport and Bossier
offices and developed and managed the Handyman Division. She has trained some of
our community’s most successful agents, including her son Andy, co-owner of Osborn
Hays Real Estate.
Betty has served the NWLA Association of Realtors as a member of the Board of
Directors, multi-term MLS Committee chair, a Director on the State Board, and was
twice selected as Realtor Associate of the Year. Her committee brought the electronic
lock boxes to our community, greatly simplifying the process of showing houses. She
was awarded the Office Managers Award for Excellence from Coldwell Banker
Corporation and the JW Dowling Award and Chairman’s Award as well.
Betty has served her community in many capacities. She served on the Shreveport
Zoning Board of Appeals 1991-2017, helping expand commerce in Shreveport with
many new businesses and developments. She has also served on committees for
United Way, Volunteers of America, and Pelican Council of Girl Scouts. In her decades
of membership at First United Methodist Church, she has served on many committees
and taught classes, while most recently serving on the Senior Adults committee and
through the Christmas Day Love Feast.
Betty is always ready for the next challenge and is excited to start her 50 th year in real
estate at Osborn Hays Real Estate. She loves being out of doors, with a lifetime of
experience hunting and fishing, and she is happiest with her family. In her spare time,
Betty loves to read, garden, cook, attend concerts, and enjoy her many friends.
